Profile on Monte Cox, M-1 Global CEO

Some information on Monte Cox.

  • Monte is the most influencial manager with the most connections in the MMA industry. He also promotes a show in the midwest that most likely has "Extreme" or "Xtreme" in the title. Among the notables he represents or has been representing are Ben Rothwell, Sean Sherk (he's basically the reason Sherk got back in the UFC after a long time out of it), Matt Hughes, Tim Sylvia, Rich Franklin, Jens Pulver, Houston Alexander, Ben Rothwell, Jey Heiron, Robbie Lawler, etc. Lots of the MFS guys are managed by him. He managed Sean Sherk, but then they splitted.

  • Monte Cox has an extensive experience dealing with Russian M-1 organization. Funny quote from the interview:
Monte Cox: I have kind of a funny story with Kerry Schall. I told him I had a fight for him in RINGS Japan...

James Hirth (sherdog.com): Oh, I already see this coming.

Monte Cox: Yes. I told him most of the Russians in RINGS were not very good. Like Volk Han, Andre Kopylov and Achmed Labasanov. Well he ran into Fedor (laughs).

James Hirth (sherdog.com): And Fedor killed him (laughs).

Monte Cox: Yeah, but who knew (laughs)? He had only had a few fights and who knew what a buzz saw Fedor would turn out to be (laughs)? Kerry would say "Hey, you ought to talk to my manager. He'll get you an easy bout in RINGS" (laughs).

  • He had some issues with International Fight League (IFL) while managing his fighters. This could and probably does mean that a good number of the fighters he manages (like Rothwell and Whitehead from IFL) or knows from different organizations will be coming to M-1 Global. For example there has been rumours about Justin McElfresh, who has the xfo light heavy belt.

Looking good, doesn't it?
